Many North Druid homes were built in the 1950s through 1970s, and their electrical systems often reflect that era. It is common to find fuse boxes, ungrounded two-prong outlets, outdated cloth-insulated wiring, and panels that simply cannot keep up with modern demand. With Georgia’s adoption of the 2023 NEC (National Electrical Code) taking effect January 1, 2025, any major renovation or new installation must meet updated safety standards for wiring, overcurrent protection, and EV charging infrastructure.
Kalahari Electrical Services specializes in panel upgrades, whole-home rewiring, multifamily electrical work, and EV charger installation for North Druid residents. Whether your mid-century ranch needs a 200-amp panel to handle modern appliances and air conditioning loads, or you want a Level 2 EV charger installed in your garage, we handle it from permitting through final inspection. We also serve North Druid’s growing number of multifamily and infill properties with code-compliant commercial electrical solutions.
We always give you transparency pricing and take the time to discuss your home or business’ unique electrical challenges so you can make the best decision possible.
You can count on us to deliver same-day service and high-quality craftmanship backed with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
We deliver exceptional work and our Lawrenceville electricians care about your comfort and safety.
We have used several other companies but will not ever again.
We received a bad inspection report for our panel when we were trying to sell our home. Kalahari came in and went over the report. We looked over and signed a moderately priced quote. Then they set off to do the work to tidy up the panel a bit and swap out breakers. Once into it they decide they would rewire the whole thing. They did not charge extra and were still in and out fast. We have used several other companies but will not ever again.

He came out the same day/stayed until midnight to get it fixed.
Excellent customer service is hard to find these days; however, Jan has it down to an art form. I had company in from out of town during the 105 degree days and he came out the same day/stayed until midnight to get it fixed and he was leaving for vacation the next day…not to mention the rates were very reasonable. I will never use another electrician. Jan far exceeded my expectations and that is saying a lot. He even called to follow-up and make sure there were no issues. FIRST CLASS SERVICE!

They are my go-to electricians.
I have used them many times and they are great. Reliable, knowledgeable, courteous and easy to work with. They are my go-to electricians. Always available and always there when you are counting on them.

North Druid is an unincorporated census-designated place in DeKalb County, known for established neighborhoods like LaVista Park, Sagamore Hills, and parts of Toco Hills. Because it is unincorporated, all permitting and code enforcement runs through DeKalb County rather than a city government. Georgia Power serves the area and offers a $250 rebate for qualifying Level 2 smart EV charger installations, which can help offset the cost of adding an EV charger to your home.
Because North Druid is unincorporated, residential electrical permits are issued by the DeKalb County Planning and Sustainability Department, not a city office. Applications are submitted through DeKalb County’s ePermitting system online, and inspections are scheduled after permits are approved and work begins. Yes. DeKalb County requires permits for most new electrical installations, service upgrades, major repairs, and circuit additions. Permits are filed through the county’s ePermitting system. Your electrician should handle the application and schedule inspections as part of the job.
Homes from that era often have undersized panels or fuse boxes, ungrounded two-prong outlets, and outdated wiring such as cloth-insulated or aluminum wiring. These systems were not designed for today’s electrical loads and may pose safety risks. A licensed electrician can inspect your system and recommend upgrades.
Yes. A licensed electrician can install a Level 2 (240-volt) charger on a dedicated circuit. Depending on your panel’s capacity, you may also need a panel upgrade. Georgia Power offers a $250 rebate for qualifying Level 2 smart EV charger installations.
Panel upgrades are needed when your current panel is outdated, such as a fuse box or a brand known for safety issues like Federal Pacific or Zinsco. Adding high-demand equipment like an EV charger, tankless water heater, or a second HVAC unit often requires more capacity than older panels can provide.
Absolutely. Georgia’s frequent spring and summer thunderstorms produce lightning that can send damaging surges through your electrical system. A whole-home surge protector installed at your panel guards your electronics, appliances, and HVAC equipment from surges caused by lightning and utility grid fluctuations.
GFCI (Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets prevent electric shock in wet areas like bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor spaces. AFCI (Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupter) devices detect dangerous electrical arcing in wiring and are typically required in bedrooms and living areas to reduce fire risk.
Yes. Georgia adopted the 2023 NEC effective January 1, 2025. All new electrical installations and major renovations in North Druid must comply with these updated standards, which include changes to wiring requirements, overcurrent protection, and EV charging infrastructure.
Yes, especially during significant renovations. Many homes in the area still have cloth-insulated wiring or ungrounded circuits that do not meet current codes. Partial or full rewiring replaces unsafe wiring, adds grounded outlets, and brings the home up to modern safety standards.
Georgia Power currently offers a $250 rebate for residential customers who install a qualifying Level 2 smart EV charger. Additional energy efficiency incentives may be available; check the Georgia Power website for the most current programs. Your electrician can help you understand which upgrades may qualify.
DeKalb County follows state codes requiring interconnected smoke detectors on every level, in all bedrooms, and outside sleeping areas. Carbon monoxide detectors are strongly recommended if you have gas appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage, even if not always strictly required in existing homes.
